Is Progress Just a Pipe Dream?
Abstract
Having spent her childhood and early years at Mont Noir, Marguerite Yourcenar was early sensitized to nature, flora, and fauna. So, she was predisposed to take an interest in ecology, which was taken very seriously in the United States. She noticed in the 1950s that scientific and technical developments sometimes contribute to disfiguring landscapes and over time and she becomes convinced of their harmfulness. Her latest works and interviews reveal her unwavering commitment to nature and her fight for the respect of animal life.
