Patricia Gauthier is a senior lecturer in 17th-century French literature at the University of Poitiers. Since her PhD dissertation, entitled Littérature et Utopie en France sous le règne de Louis XIV (Literature and Utopia in France under Louis XIV), she has published numerous articles on this subject and contributed entries in collective works such as the Dictionnaire du Grand Siècle (Fayard, 1990) or the Dictionnaire analytique des toponymes imaginaires dans la prose narrative de langue française (1605 - 1711) (Presses de l'Université Laval, 2011, new edition by Hermann, 2013). Her research also focuses on prose fiction, particularly the comic novel, a genre to which she has devoted several articles. She also works on the presence of the 17th century in the novels of the late 20th and 21st centuries, especially those of Pascal Quignard.
