Author Guidelines
Manuscript Submission:
East of Europe. Humanities and Social Studies publishes original research articles, review articles, research communications, book reviews, and academic reports in Polish, English, and other languages of Central and Eastern Europe. In justified cases, where warranted by the subject matter of the research, the Editorial Board may accept manuscripts submitted in another language.
Only original manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal or publisher will be accepted for publication.
Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the journal's online submission system available on the journal's website.
Manuscript Preparation:
Manuscripts should be submitted in an editable Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
The recommended length of a manuscript is 32,000–60,000 characters (including spaces and footnotes).
The manuscript should be organized into clearly structured sections with appropriate headings.
Each submission must include:
- the title of the article;
- an abstract (150–250 words) presenting the research objective, methodology, principal findings, and conclusions;
- 4–8 keywords;
- an author note including academic degree/title, institutional affiliation, corresponding author's e-mail address, and ORCID iD.
Regardless of the language of publication, every article must include an English title, abstract, and keywords. Manuscripts submitted in languages other than Polish must additionally include a Polish title, abstract, and keywords.
All language versions of the abstract should accurately reflect the content of the article and be substantively equivalent.
References and Footnotes:
A bibliography arranged alphabetically should be placed at the end of the manuscript and divided into two sections:

Footnotes should appear at the bottom of the page and follow the traditional footnote system. The use of commonly accepted Latin abbreviations (ibidem, idem, eadem, op. cit., vide, confer) is permitted.

Citations:
Direct quotations should be enclosed in quotation marks and documented by means of footnotes.
Examples:
"National security constitutes the fundamental condition for the durability of the state."¹
According to T. Koziełło, contemporary states should develop mechanisms of societal resilience.²
As A. Nowak argues, memory politics plays a significant role in shaping national identity.³
Figures and Tables:
Photographs, maps, graphs, diagrams, and other illustrations should be embedded in the manuscript and submitted separately as JPG files with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI, with their intended placement clearly indicated in the text.
Tables should be prepared in Microsoft Word and included only within the manuscript.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material and for providing appropriate source acknowledgements.
Non-Latin Scripts:
Texts written in non-Latin scripts should remain in their original form in both the main text and footnotes. In the bibliography, transliteration should follow the standards applicable in Poland.
Book Reviews:
Book reviews should be 14,000–24,000 characters (including spaces).
The heading of the review should contain the complete bibliographic description of the reviewed publication.

Author Declarations:
By submitting a manuscript, the author confirms that:
- the manuscript is an original scholarly work;
- it has not been previously published and is not under consideration elsewhere;
- it does not infringe the copyright or other rights of third parties.
Authors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of the research and to identify all sources of research funding (grant, research project, funding institution). Where no conflicts of interest or external funding exist, an appropriate statement should be provided.
Preparing an Anonymous Manuscript
To preserve the integrity of the double-blind peer review process, authors should:
- remove all identifying information from the file properties;
- ensure that neither the manuscript nor its metadata contains information that could reveal the author's identity;
- cite their own previous publications in a manner that preserves anonymity during peer review.
